Psalm 143:5 “I remember the days of long ago; I meditate on all your works and consider what your hands have done.”
A perfect black velvet dress and black shoes, dangling diamond earrings and a necklace to match (the best fake diamonds a mom could afford), a successful day shopping with my daughter for prom was finished. The only thing left to do was to take it home and iron the dress. I turned the dress inside out and proceeded to iron it on a low temperature to make sure I did not damage the velvet. I left it hanging inside out and carefully placed it inside the garment bag and put it in a safe place where it would hang in anticipation of the big night.
The day of the dance was here and I think I was more excited than my daughter was. We did her hair and I watched her apply her makeup and of course as her mom I thought to myself how beautiful this little girl had grown up to be. “Mom, should I put my dress on now?” I felt we should wait until about fifteen minutes before her date arrived so her dress would not get wrinkled. As the time approached we carefully removed the dress and on it went. She looked lovely as I looked at her from head to toe.
All of a sudden I noticed something on the front of the dress. I looked again and all over the front of the dress you could see iron marks from the top of the dress to the bottom. I had been so careful! I felt terrible, and of course, my daughter was in tears. When my husband came into the room to see what all the commotion was about, we explained the situation. His response, “Don’t worry; it will be okay.” My response was, “What do you think, another dress is just going to fall from the sky?” I no sooner got those words out of my mouth that our doorbell rang.
It wasn’t her date but it was a long lost friend of hers. This friend had just been in the neighborhood and thought she would stop by and see my daughter. We proceeded to tell her our story and showed her the dress and what came next was God doing what God does, He provides. She was in the neighborhood to pick up her prom dress from the cleaners and she had it in her car. Her prom had come and gone and she was more than happy to let my daughter borrow it. His provision continued in the fact that it too was black and had the same diamonds on the dress that matched my daughter’s jewelry. My husband was right; everything would be all right and to my surprise, a dress did fall out of the sky. When my daughter arrived home later that evening, God surprised me yet again. The dress my daughter was going to wear was being worn by another young lady; the borrowed dress was one of a kind!
Whenever I doubt God and His provision for my life, I always remember that day and that prom dress! He is faithful. Do you doubt His faithfulness? Think back on your life and I bet you can find your own prom dress moment. He is the Provider daily. Sometimes we are looking for the big miracles and often we miss the daily miracles He does for us each day. Watch out for whatever miracle He does for you today.
Lord, I thank you for my prom dress story and how to some it might look like a coincidence, but to us who know You, WE KNOW YOU!
