The Sound of the Trumpet

Joel 2:1 “Blow a trumpet in Zion; sound an alarm on my holy mountain! Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble, for the day of the Lord is coming, it is near.” My dad served in the Army band as a trumpeter. I remember my mom and I listening to the sweet sound of his instrument as he would practice. I had so much pride in him as I watched him march with his fellow band members. The trumpet is associated with power and might. It was always associated with military strength. The trumpet was used in the past to signify the cry of charging the enemy in war. To this day, the trumpet is still being used in our military. They blow the trumpet to introduce the morning with Reveille. Assembly is played to gather together the troops and draw the plans for the day. Retreat is to signal the end of the day. Taps is played to signify lights out. The Bible speaks of the trumpet and it was used in the Jewish culture. The purpose of the blowing of the trumpets was to let the people know it was time to get ready to move, to get ready to fight. It was also used as a wake up call to sinners. It was a reminder to them to repent of their sins. During the time of festivals it was also played to let the people know it was time to be still and remember all that God had done for the Jewish people. It was blown to let the people know to get ready, for someone special is coming. I think a trumpeter is needed like never before. The Bible tells us to keep watch. When we see these things happen around us we can know that His return is near. It is time for us as a church to pick up our trumpet and play the notes that signify CHARGE as we fight the battle. We need to play Reveille, a time to wake up and be a church on the move. We need to have a plan and assemble together as one church with one voice. The end of the day is coming. Can you hear the sound of Taps? In Matthew 24:31 we are told, “He will send out his angels with the mighty blast of a trumpet and they will gather his chosen ones from all over the world – from the farthest end of the earth and heaven.” The Lord wants no one to perish, not one. We each have loved ones who need us to play our trumpet louder and with more urgency. We know someone in our lives who if the Lord would come back to gather His chosen ones, they wouldn’t be included. These loved ones who we have been praying for, will finally understand what we have been trying to tell them. Get ready, because someone special is coming. The sound of Taps will play, signifying that the day is done and the day of the LORD IS HERE. I just pray it will not be too late. Lord, each of us here has a loved one we have been praying for, that they may know You. May we blow our trumpet playing a sweet lovely sound of Your love. Yet may it also let them know that the day of glory is fast approaching. It’s time to get ready, someone very important is on His way. – Michele
