Little Lambs Can Fly
Her face was aglow with the magic of the moment. That’s the joy of having little ones around – they tend to visit those magical moments frequently. She was the future puppeteer. A yellow furry duckling adorned her hand and most of her arm. “Grandma,” she squealed. “You be the lamb!” Cooperating with the fun and warmth of the moment, I slid a fuzzy white lamb over my own hand, and manipulated my fingers to let the creature walk through the air. “Oh, Grandma, look! The little lamb can fly!!” I smiled at my grandniece, and then I began to ponder. Truly, little lambs can fly!
We are Jesus’ little lambs. Protected and provided for by the gentlest of shepherds, we are enclosed by His arms of love and enabling strength, and carried close to His heart. His voice catches our attention as He softly speaks our name. How well we know the words of Psalm 23. “The Lord is my shepherd. I have everything I need. He lets me rest ... He leads me ... He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, ... I will not be afraid ... [His] rod and [His] staff protect and comfort me ... [He] welcomes me as a guest, ... My cup overflows with blessings. Surely [His] goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in [His house] forever.”
Let us not forget though that our Shepherd is our Lord, the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. When Isaiah tells us about our God, he says, “He never grows faint or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding. He gives power to those who are tired and worn out; he offers strength to the weak. Even youths will become exhausted, and young men will give up. But those who wait on the Lord will find new strength. They will fly high on wings like eagles.” Daughter of God, look!! The little lamb can fly!!
