Mark 6:52 “For they had not understood about the loaves; their hearts were hardened.”
The apostles had just witnessed a miracle. They not only witnessed it, they participated in it. Each one of them spent the best part of an afternoon handing out bread and fish to over five thousand people. They fed these five thousand people with only five loaves of bread and two fish! Wow! What a miracle. They saw it happen; they felt it in their hands. I am sure the smell of all that fish had to stick in the air they breathed. I wonder to myself how could they not understand about the loaves. How did they not have this faith in Jesus after what they had just experienced? It would be just hours later in a storm that their faith would be rattled. Oh, what little faith. They were there, but wait. How many miracles have I seen in my life? I too was there. I saw and felt, and though my miracles did not involve smelly fish, they were just as much a miracle. How my heart has been hardened at times when God is performing miracles daily in my life. I am too busy, distracted, or caught up in my emotions to see all that He has done and is doing in my life. How about you? Grief has a way of hardening our hearts. Can you open your heart and see the miracles God is doing each and every day as you walk through this journey? He is there and He is accomplishing so much through you even though you might not be able to see right now.
Lord, I pray for hearts that are open to all the miracles You perform each and every day.
