Thoughts Under the Umbrella

John 11:31   “She is going to the tomb to weep there.”

Mary was being comforted by her fellow Jews after the death of her brother Lazarus.  When Martha told Mary Jesus was looking for her, Mary rose up and ran out of the house.  The Jews supposed she was going to the tomb to mourn.  Mary was really looking for the teacher, Jesus. When Mary saw Jesus she called out to Him.  “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would have lived!”  The Lord saw them all weeping and he too began to weep.  As he instructed them to move the stone, they continued to question him.  How could he bring someone back to life after four days?  The Lord said, “Did I not tell you that if you believed, you would see the glory of God?”  So they took the stone away and the Lord said, “Lazarus, come out!”

Each one of us has gone to the tomb to weep there.  We have cried many tears in deep pain and anguish.  We too, in going to the tomb of grief, looked for the teacher and have found him right by our side.  Our job now is to be there for those new in their anguish who cry out, “How can he bring us back to life from the tomb of grief?”  We are the stone movers who open up these hurting moms to the possibility of life after the tomb.  We have been instructed to move the stone and the Lord will do the rest for those who believe.  One day they too will hear the words we heard, “Lazarus, come out!”  They will see the glory of the Lord just as we have and they too might see beyond the focus of the tomb to see the treasures they had and still have.

Lord, we can now see beyond the tomb, and see that the life and death of our child has given us more than we ever lost. We thank you for showing us your glory.
