Isaiah 43:19 “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.”
It was a day and time when everything changed. Their lives would never be the same. Their lives changed the first time they met Him. His death would bring their reason to live to an end, or so they thought.
They were so sorrowful I am sure they felt they could not survive the pain of their grief. Each one of them gave up three years of their lives to follow this man they came to believe in. He was their friend, their teacher and their Savior. They must have felt His death and the last three years of their lives were a waste. It probably brought a feeling of destruction to each one. They must have had many questions. Where do we go from here and how do we go on without Him? Can we find a way to make His life matter and find a purpose once again? The feeling of despair could probably be felt among all of His followers. It was finished!
Then came a day that no one saw coming, the rock moved, the tomb is empty. He is risen! I can only imagine the confusion at first. How does this happen? The questions that came after this must have been many. There was only one answer. He was who He said He was, the Son of God, the Redeemer and the Savior. These men witnessed many new things from this man. He gave them a new way to live, a new purpose. In His resurrection their grief turned to joy. Their life was no longer wasted. Their lives were not finished. In fact they were starting anew. They had a new beginning with a future and a hope.
We too have had a day when our lives changed forever. It was a time without a purpose. It was finished! We were destroyed and found ourselves in a wasteland. Then something happens. A resurrection is in the making, a new thing springs up. Do you perceive it? He is making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland. It may take longer than three days, but it will happen. George Matheson who was a blind preacher in Scotland wrote these words, “Teach me the glory of my cross; teach me the value of my thorn. Show me that I have climbed to thee by the path of pain. Show me that my tears have made my rainbows.”
Dear Lord, our lives are not finished just yet. We are being resurrected out of the wasteland with You guiding us.
