Thoughts Under the Umbrella

Galatians 4:3-5  "So also, when we were underage, we were in slavery under the elemental spiritual forces of the world.  But when the set time had fully come, God sent his son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship."

For to us a child is born.  God sent His Son into this world for one purpose -- to save us, to adopt us into His family.  Isn’t that what adoptive parents take a pledge to do?  They open themselves up to giving their adoptive child their name, their home and all the privileges of a child although not a child by birth.  They hopefully offer them the kind of love that is limitless, unconditional.  They take them from a harmful situation and offer them a safe and comforting environment.

This Christmas as we celebrate this child, the child whose Father we now also call Father, let us give thanks.  We have been adopted and we now receive the privileges of bearing His name.  He graciously brought us into His family where we are met with His unconditional love.  His love has no limits.  He protects us; He consoles us in our darkest of times.  He supplies all of our needs and He will be our Father for eternity.  There is nothing that can separate us from His love, not even death.  In the devotion Our Daily Bread, there was one little sentence that makes a powerful statement.  "The birth of Christ brought God to man; the cross of Christ brings man to God."

Lord, You paid a huge price for our adoption.  We are forever grateful as we celebrate Your birthday.
