Faith Without Wings

Apart from a heart knowledge of what God has done for us as believers, we have a faith without wings.  Is that a paradox?  Is it a contradiction in terms?  Yes, but it is not impossible.  Imagine a young eaglet that is born without wings.  It will never leave its nest.  Eventually, malnourished and unprotected, it will become easy prey for any predator.  And yet, although it will never know the freedom of flight, it still has a God-given instinct that wants to fly.  Imagine now, a Christian who has been born again by faith in the work of Christ.  She is a child of God who possesses all the promises and provisions of God, and she has a God-given instinct that wants to fly.  But – she has no wings!

In Romans 1:17, it tells us that the righteous woman will live by faith.  A dual meaning is encompassed by the truth that is expressed. There is a point in time in which God declares that the woman who comes to Him by faith for salvation is eternally righteous.  But, there is also a life-principle in the verse.  There is a faith that gives life to the believer in the sense that that faith allows her to follow her God-given instinct to fly – to soar above all that has the capacity to cripple or destroy her in the living out of her relationship with God.  It is a faith that counts on God and clings to His promises no matter what is going on in regards to her circumstances, her "people relationships," or in her own thinking.  The believer is not immune or exempt from trying or difficult circumstances, and when the elements threaten, the believer with wings knows where her answers are found, and is committed to working through until the answer God has for her, becomes hers.  Fears, doubts, and hesitation can cripple us because we can try so very hard, but we try with our own efforts and in our own strength.  So often our head has learned truth that somehow gets stuck there and never moves down to our heart.  God wants my heart to know the security and the sufficiency of His unfailing love.  He wants my heart to know that all the particulars of the life I am living are touched by His incredible love.  He wants me to know that I can fully and totally count on Him to see the reality of His promises.

Precious believer, do you sense a crippling in your spirit? God truly wants you to fly!
