Thoughts Under the Umbrella

Isaiah 49:15   “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne?  Though she may forget, I will not forget you!”

In the book “Awakening,” Eugene Peterson describes memory as a vigorously present tense, selecting out of the storehouse of the past, retrieving and arranging images and insights, and then hammering them together for use in the present moment.  In the days surrounding Mother’s Day, we often live in our storehouse of memories.  Some of these memories bring a smile to our heart, while others take our heart and break them and smash them to pieces.  We need to remember that our children we were blessed with, were not perfect.  They had good days and bad days.  They had their own struggles and heartbreak.  We too must cut ourselves some slack and know we too were not perfect.  We had days when we were good moms, and then we had days when we probably made many mistakes.  We were all learning to walk through this thing we call life.  We are all flawed human beings.  I pray we will rejoice in this gift we were given to be our child’s mom in the good and the bad days.  If you find yourself struggling through these memories, know that there is a God who has not forgotten you.  He is walking with you through each memory, good and bad.  Turn to Him and trust Him and thank Him for the gift of being a mom.

Lord, we thank you for these children we were blessed with.  I pray we find comfort in You as we retrieve and arrange our images of these lives that were lived by our children.
